Episode 107: The Demon World Tournament Begins

Kurama is initially opposed to Raizen’s idea to have the Dark Tournament held in his place by the local tournament producer, Rui, because he considers Rui isn’t a worthy opponent for him. Kurama, on the other hand, decides to participate in the competition after witnessing the strength of several of his friends who are taking part.

This episode begins with the start of the third fight, in which Mitarai battles Abe. Even though he is at a disadvantage owing to his inability to perform any of his techniques, Mitarai is able to take the upper hand on his opponent. Abe, on the other hand, manages to get past Mitarai’s defenses by putting up an unseen reflected barrier between them. He gains the upper hand in the conflict as a result of this. A tremendous attack then injures Mitarai, causing him to cough up blood and damages his body.

At this point, Kurama teleports in and challenges Abe to a fight. Kurama appears to have grown in strength since their last combat, but Abe isn’t afraid and chooses to fight Kurama regardless. Kurama attacks him with one of his most powerful moves, but Abe’s barrier blocks it once more. After that, he tries another technique on Abe that almost breaks through the barrier, but instead explodes, injuring both warriors equally. The fight continues, with Kurama employing another of his tactics on him that appears to be working this time, only to be prevented once more by the barrier for both fighters.

This is a filler episode since it has no influence on the rest of the story and has no connection to the main plot. It was probably brought in to highlight how powerful all of the demons Rui invited to the tournament are.

Another reason for this being a filler episode is Mitarai’s defeat at the hands of Abe. Mitarai clearly isn’t a particularly powerful demon, as he was defeated by Abe in a single hit.

Finally, Kurama’s invitation to battle and defeat Abe is another reason it was included as filler. If it had been part of the primary plot, his challenge to Abe could have been simply ignored because he would have had no motive to do so. However, because this is a filler episode, it’s understandable that Kurama would want to challenge him after witnessing his strength in the competition. Since Mitarai was defeated by Abe in one hit, it is apparent that he isn’t a particularly powerful demon.

Episode 108: Farewell, Kurama

Kurama is fighting Shigure, a demon hunter sent to kill him. Shigure is a great fighter who is attempting to defeat Kurama with both blades and magic. Kurama has the upper hand, but he refuses to kill Shigure because he simply cannot bring himself to do so. He ultimately unleashes all of his power on Shigure, defeating him.

This Yu Yu Hakusho episode served as a filler between episodes 107 and 108 of the anime series. It was made to give Kurama additional character development as he battles with his feelings about being human again, as well as his contradictory ideas on whether or not it is right for him to kill people or demons who are threatening the lives of others. The fact that this episode focused on developing Kurama’s character was a wise decision on the part of the Yu Yu Hakusho creators, because it gave you a better understanding of his character before his relationship with Hiei becomes much more tense in later episodes of the anime series, particularly during their battle against Sensui’s team in episode 112 of Yu Yu Hakusho.

This episode was designated as filler material because it made no additional progress in the overall storyline of Yu Yu Hakusho. By the end of this episode, Kurama’s bond with his human persona has been fully developed, and nothing in this episode affects how Kurama and Hiei will fight Sensui’s team in later episodes. It does reveal Kurama’s character at a different point than in episodes 107 and 108, but it has no effect on his participation in future Yu Yu Hakusho episodes.

Episode 109: Love and War

The episode begins with a fight between Hiei and Mukuro. Each appears to be evenly matched, with neither being able to gain an advantage.

The episode then flashes back to Mukuro preparing for the showdown a few days ago. It demonstrates that he has no intention of backing down and is working hard to achieve success. Both warriors are revealed to be equal in terms of power on the day of the battle, and they both strike each other with hard blows.

During the fight, Mukuro gets a wound on his shoulder, and Hiei notices that he was holding back previously. He then claims that he had been gentle with him previously since he didn’t want to cause him too much pain. Mukuro becomes increasingly damaged as the fight progresses (one of his ribs was shattered), but he continues to fight as if nothing has occurred (the same way Hiei has always fought). Hiei manages to break Mukuro’s chains from his previous life that are wrapped around his body at one point during this time frame. This sends him into a rage, and he attacks with everything he has left, but it’s not enough to beat Hiei.

This is a filler episode because it does not appear in the manga. It does, however, take place in the Yu Yu Hakusho anime series.

The reason this is a filler episode is since it was not included in the manga (the story was created specifically for the anime). The designer of Yu Yu Hakusho wanted to give Mukuro’s character a unique twist, so he came up with a new tale for him (in his manga). Hiei defeating Mukuro and freeing his ties from his prior existence were the only things that happened in this episode. The animation writers made up the rest of the episode totally from scratch.

Hiei eventually defeats Mukuro and frees himself from the shackles of his past. Mukuro is unable to fight since he is unable to recover from the injury caused by Hiei.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this episode is that it demonstrates how much Hiei has changed over the series. At start, he was a ruthless individual who just cared about himself. But, as the series progressed, he became closer to his pals and, as a result, became a better guy. He even began to care about others outside of his organization (such as Sensui), despite the fact that it was primarily due to his quest to kill him. This episode demonstrated that he had matured to the point where he was willing to fight someone else’s battle for them, even if it meant risking his own safety (this is something even Kurama had trouble doing). It also demonstrated how much strength Hiei had accumulated in the months leading up to this episode (he gained more power than any one else has in the series up until this point).

Episode 111: Closure

The Makai tournament’s last round is held in this episode, with Yusuke and Yomi fighting for their respective places as King.

Yusuke decides to battle Yomi in the Makai Tournament after learning of his companions’ betrayal. Yomi, on the other hand, is too strong for him and would have defeated him if Hiei hadn’t interrupted him and attempted to kill him. Yusuke is knocked unconscious as a result, and Yomi is barely able to rise. The episode finishes without a winner being determined.

This is a filler episode. Because the Makai Tournament isn’t part of the main plot, it can be skipped without affecting the entire story.

Because the events of this episode are detailed in a later episode, 112, the events of this episode are not important to the story.

Episode 114: All or Nothing

The episode begins with a group of high school kids investigating an abandoned mannequin factory that is said to be haunted by a young woman’s ghost. They were divided into two groups, one examining the building and the other waiting in their cars. A demon arrives out of nowhere and begins attacking everyone. The first group flees, but they are too terrified to return and assist their friends. The second group returns to try to assist them, but they are also scared off.

Meanwhile, Kurama and Hiei were walking home when they noticed Maya approaching them. Hiei hurriedly hides behind Kurama, hoping Maya won’t notice him. When Kurama notices her, he pulls her aside and tells her not to go home since his mother is unwell and he needs to stay at home tonight. She pauses for a bit before announcing that she’ll go home and return the next night so Kurama won’t have to worry about his mother.

When she leaves, Hiei informs Kurama that he was worried about nothing because nothing had happened. He claims there is no evidence that Yatsude is still alive, given the fact that it has been seven years since he was last seen. He then tells Kurama that he’s never seen Hiei become so worried about someone.

Kurama is sitting in the park later that night when Hiei returns to find for Yatsude. He informs Hiei that he’s already looked for him over ten times but hasn’t found him, and that he has no plans to look for him again because it’s too difficult. When Hiei notices Kurama’s tiredness, he chooses to abandon his search for Yatsude and return home to rest.

This episode is filler because there are no chapters/episodes in the manga story line that take place during this time period (which is covered in the anime). This is due to the speed with which the anime series catches up to the manga series and passes over some episodes/chapters. This episode’s plot contained nothing significant that had not already been addressed in earlier episodes/chapters of Yu Yu Hakusho or would have been covered later in other episodes/chapters of Yu Yu Hakusho, hence it was filler.
