Yoshihiro Togashi is the author and illustrator of the Yu Yu Hakusho (幽☆遊☆白書, Yū Yū Hakusho?) manga series. The plot revolves around Yusuke Urameshi, a teen delinquent who is hit and killed by a car while attempting to save the life of a child. Enma Daio, King of the Underworld, summons his spirit and gives him the option to return to Earth as a “spirit detective” or “reaper” in exchange for solving cases involving ghosts and demons.

From December 1990 to July 1994, the manga was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shnen Jump magazine, before being moved to the monthly magazine chapters of the collected volumes. Between April 22, 1992, and May 17, 1994, the chapters were collected into 18 tankobon volumes published under Shueisha’s Jump Comics banner. The manga was eventually converted into an anime television series called YuYu Hakusho (幽☆遊☆白書?, lit. “Ghost Files”) which was produced by Fuji Television. It was aired on Fuji TV in Japan on October 12, 1992, and continued for 114 episodes until its finale on October 26, 2018.

Yu Yu Hakusho Plot

The story revolves around Yusuke Urameshi, a street brawler who is struck and killed by a car while attempting to save the life of a child. His spirit is rescued by Botan, an Underworld ferrywoman, and he is resurrected as a fourteen-year-old child. Yusuke is appointed as the afterlife’s detective and is tasked with solving crimes involving demons and supernatural beings.
