Villains are as important in the anime as the protagonist and some villains have proved to be unforgettable. There are certain things that makes us wonder about them like the reason for their cruelness, their motive and intentions and the possibility of their redemption. 2019 introduced some great villains that caught our attention till the end of the series. They made us wonder about them with their complicate personalities that sometime even made them relatable. Here is the pick of our best 5 villains of 2019.
Table of Contents
Malty Melromarc (The Rising of the Shield Hero)
It’s not necessary for a villain to be appealing in terms of their intentions to become our favorite. Sometimes it is the consequence of their hideous actions that is extremely satisfying to watch. Their suffering is what makes a good show even more appealing. Malty is a priness who flutters from one group to other, enchanting men with her looks only to ruin their lives and steal their stuff (Naofumi is the victim of her false accusations that ruins his life). When she faces the consequence, we didn’t feel sorry for her even for a second.
The Originals (Astra: Lost in Space)
When a group of highschool students are set to go on a trip to space and are thrown thousands of light years away sue to a black hole, the first thing that they wonder is that who caused that? Later they finds out the reality about their existence. They are not the humans but the clones of originals they call ‘parents’. These clones happen to be due to an illegal cloning so they are need to be kept hidden for the purpose of donation of organs at the time of need, until they are exposed and have to be killed. Although the parents are rarely seen in the series. They are different kind of villains and yet interesting. A huge part of Kanata no Astra is spent on them wondering about their background and life and how it makes the difference after the revelation of the reality. It’s amusing.
Cioccolata from (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind)
Although Cioccolata is not main villain of this series but he is one of the best. Being a crooked doctor, he loves creating snuff films, refers humans as a ‘pet’, calls upon molds that ruins a whole city block, he is even able to cut himself with the accuracy of such degree that he can still live with just limbs and spine. We later learn that he is the one who made Sorbet and Gelato suffer before killing them just because they followed boss identity. He is also one of those villains who made us happy when he met his fate and suffered in the hands of Giorno which include non-stop smacks before he gets dumped into the garbage truck.
Tahomaru (Dororo)
Originally Tahomaru who is the brother of Hyakkimaru was not given much importance in the manga as he showed up for one battle where not much emotions were involved. But he played a significant role in the 2019 remake. He hates Hyakkimaru running the demon’s blessings and he wish to be his superior in in front of his parents. The concluding battle between him and Hyakkimaru is one of the best fights of 2019 anime.
Askeladd (Vinland Saga)
Askeladd is the real villain of the Vinland Saga but sometimes it’s hard to believe as he is like the father of the protagonist, Thorfinn for a decade. Although he was the one who took Thorfinn’s real father’s life but Thorfinn had been with him even since and as he seeks revenge. Askeladd gave him fighting lessons and brought him up. He’s smart, enigmatic and petrifying warrior but Askeadd keeps his intentions hidden to even those who are closest to him. He is the best villain of 2019 and the kind of villain that makes the show even more appealing. You are recommended to watch Vinland Saga in order to see his charismatic personality.
Other than these five appealing villains, there are some others who are also worth mentioning that like The Beast of Attack On Titan. This giant talking beast throws rocks and shores on the soldiers and he probably has something to do with Eren which is not revealed yet but we will know that soon.
