Takemichi Hanagaki discovers via the news that Hinata Tachibana, his long-time girlfriend from middle school, has died while he is watching the news. A nefarious organization known as the Tokyo Manji Gang recently assassinated his one and only girlfriend in the history of the world. He lives in a run-down apartment with thin walls, and his six-years-younger boss treats him as though he’s a complete and utter idiot.
When he is at the lowest point of his life, he finds himself abruptly transported back twelve years to his middle school days. Hopeless part-timer Takemichi must rise to the top of Kanto’s most deadly delinquent gang in order to save Hinata and change the life he spent running away from the people.
It Looks Like An Isekai Anime, But It Isn’t An Isekai Anime
Viewers frequently mistake it for the isekai subgenre, which is a type of fantasy in which one or more characters are transported to another world, as they do with many other time travel series. An accidental head injury or a collision with a moving vehicle usually sets off the shift to an alternate world in isekai.
Takemichi’s first time travel experience occurs when he is pushed onto the tracks in front of an approaching train. This gives the series an isekai feel, but Tokyo Revengers isn’t considered an isekai anime because he travels to the past rather than another world.

Tokyo Revengers Anime
Tokyo Revengers will be adapted into an anime television series in June 2020, it was announced. Koichi Hatsumi directs the series, which is produced by Liden Films. Yasuyuki Mut wrote the scripts, Keiko Ta designed the characters, Satoki Iida directed the sound, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi composed the music.
On April 11, 2021, it debuted on MBS and other networks. Official Hige Dandism performed “Cry Baby,” the series’ opening theme song, while eill performed “Koko de Iki o Shite” (, “Take a Breath Here,” the series’ ending theme song).
“Tokyo Wonder,” performed by Nakimushi, is the second ending song. Outside of Asia, Crunchyroll has licensed the series. Muse Communication has licensed the series in Southeast Asia and South Asia, where it is available on the Muse Asia YouTube channel and Bilibili.
Live-action film
In February 2020, a live-action film adaptation was announced. Tsutomu Hanabusa will direct the film, with scripts by Izumi Takahashi and music by Yutaka Yamada.
Takumi Kitamura, Yki Yamada, Yosuke Sugino, Nobuyuki Suzuki, Hayato Isomura, Shotaro Mamiya, Ryo Yoshizawa, and Mio Imada are among the cast members. “Namae wo Yobu yo” by Super Beaver serves as the film’s theme song.
The film’s crew announced in April 2020 that filming had been halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was originally scheduled to open in Japan on October 9, 2020, but it was postponed in June 2020 due to the ongoing effects of COVID-19. It was announced in March 2021 that the film had been rescheduled to premiere on July 9, 2021.
Tokyo Revengers Manga
Tokyo Revengers (Japanese: [a], Hepburn: Tky Ribenjzu) is a Ken Wakui-created Japanese manga series. Since March 2017, it has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shnen Magazine. Liden Films premiered an anime television series adaptation in April 2021. In July 2021, Japan will see the release of a live-action film adaptation.
As of July 2021, the Tokyo Revengers manga had a total print run of over 32 million copies. In 2020, the manga was awarded the 44th Kodansha Manga Award in the shnen category.

Manjiro “Mikey” Sano and Ken “Draken” Ryuguji are the leaders of the Tokyo Manji Gang (, Tky Manji-Kai? ), also known as Toman.
Background
The majority of the members are in middle school. The gang’s code of ethics includes upholding each member’s honor and never acting in a deplorable or cowardly manner.
A few individuals have completely warped the present-day Toman of one of the alternate timelines. The gang has evolved into a full-fledged crime syndicate that commits every type of crime imaginable.
History
The gang began as a grade-school biker friend group made up of six middle-school friends from various Tokyo schools.
Toman was founded on June 19 in response to Baji’s suggestion that they form their own gang in order to combat the Black Dragons. “If one of us gets hurt, we’ll protect them… a gang that’s all for one, one for all,” their gang’s motto reads.
Mikey, Draken, Baji, Mitsuya, Pah-chin, and Kazutora formed Toman as a group of middle-schoolers. They used to ride their bikes around looking for fun and generally having a good time. They were always teasing each other and pulling pranks on each other, but it was all in good fun. Mitsuya designed the uniforms that would later become the official Toman uniform, and the iconic photo of the founders was taken in 2003.
Kazutora decides to steal a better bike for Mikey a few days before Mikey’s birthday and persuades a reluctant Baji to join them. They come close to stealing the bike, but are apprehended by the shop owner. To avoid being apprehended, Kazutora strikes him with a wrench, killing him in the process. After the ordeal, Kazutora snaps and is sent to a reform school. Toman, who had been naive and pure, had vanished.
