My Hero Academia S4 – Episode 1: Review

[the_ad_group id="23498"]

Just like many other sequel season of many popular anime, My Hero Academia also begin with a recap of previous episodes. And they did a really good job with it, making it concise but covering almost everything to make it a fascinating episode to watch.

The symbol of peace and number one hero, All Might has used his final ounce of strength to defeat the biggest villain and forced him to retire. The final words he said after defeating the villain was “Next it’s your turn.” which left a mystery to the general public and is trying to figure out the meaning of it. Not only the general public but the media as well. A freelance reporter offers his assistance to solve this mysterious sentence. According to his speculation, All Might has a replacement among the students of class 1-A in UA academy. The reporter asks the editor of the newspaper to get him permission to interview the class, under the guise of reporting on dorm life and what are their daily routines.

Aizawa introduces the reporter to students but doesn’t trust him, but it’s principal Nezu’s authorization. He can’t seem to sense anything evil from the reporter, he permits the report to proceed.

Afterwards we get the usual background of the class students, their seat numbers and their powers as he observes them how they spend their day. The introduction is more or less the same we have been given in previous recap episodes but the in-between moments of them living their dorm lives makes it a bit unique.

Then after the introduction of the students the scene is cut to where the Freelancer thinks about this research and with whom he is suspicious. After eliminating most of the students of class from the list in order to figure out the successor of All Might he has reached to this point where he suspects only those students who performed well in the sports festival. However, it seems simple to figure out.

Bokugo is taken out of the picture, although he is a powerful candidate but he does not have an attitude of a hero, also, he knows that he has the wish to surpass All Might. So it’s hard to think that he would be the successor.
Todoroki has no chance because his father Endeavor who is number two hero will now allow it.
The others just don’t seem to fit in the picture as the successor and that leaves us with just Izuku Midoriya.

The two most epic and cutest scenes form this episode are shown at last. First, the discussion between Izuku and All Might where he drops off the meat buns to the class after being gifted a lot by a store keeper who happens to be a huge fan of All Might.
Second, the discussion between reporter and Izuku.

He reveals Midoriya his true objective, which was obviously not to interview the students in their new dorm lives but to find out the true meaning of All Might final words as a hero and he tells him that he knows the successor is Midoriya, but the best part is, he plans on keeping it a secret. The reporter had a photography quirk and he takes a picture of himself and Midoriya for the future when Midoriya is a popular hero. The only thing he hands over to the newspaper is an exclusive picture of All Might eating a bun which they gladly accepts.

It was a nice simple episode. Although it was just a recap but it’s something we are accustomed to watch in the opening of the season. The good thing is that the new season has finally begun and we can’t be more excited. As usual, it’s a perfect start, epic animation but can’t decide about the new characters since we have just been introduced to them.
