Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 19: Review

This episode was not as depressing and disheartening as the previous one so I am happy that it didn’t left me with empty feelings but that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t sad episode but it ended with some hope. There were also some hilarious moments which was rightly balanced the sad part.

It was very emotional and quite heartbreaking to see how Rin embraced Tohru. It was sad but at the same time it made us feel good as it is the first step that Rin has taken to feel better. It was the first time Rin had proper interaction with Tohru and it is nice to see that she met her in a state where she needed someone to cling to and burst into tears. She has been alone for a long time and all she needs is someone to comfort her. But she intentionally avoid these relationships because Rin feels she doesn’t deserve kind people like Tohru and Haru in her life. According to her these kind people are easily exploited and she doesn’t like it when others take advantage of them because at the end of the end they get hurt. Things get more emotional when Rin burst into tears and vent her feelings by burying her head in Tohru’s lap as she no longer can hold back those emotions. She has nowhere to go as she has no clue what to do but she doesn’t have to suffer everything alone. A Shigure rightly said that there is nothing wrong to let other take care of you. How you handle things after that is what matters the most and I’m glad that it relates to Yuki. If Yuki can move forward, there is also hope for Rin to recover from her trauma and move forward in her life peacefully.

Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 19: Review

This new bond between Tohru and Rin is really cool. They have few things in common and they seem to feel happy around each other and it would be really cool to see them to join forces inorder to break the curse. They both are clueless about how to do it, although Tohru thinks that kureno might has some idea about it but Rin denies it completely. I like how Rin openly speaks with Tohru and there is no doubt that Rin is a kind hearted person. She just doesn’t like to show her kindness to people and on surface she is always angry and rude. It proved when she realized that she asked something very personal to Tohru. Asking her the most precious in her life was something that made her look hurt and when Rin noticed that, she backed off. She truly cares for Tohru to the extent that she wishes for her to meet someone who can take care of her like Haru does for her.

The buddig relationship was really awesome but the ending was quite depressing as Tohru doesn’t seem well. But despite of that she doesn’t hesitate to meddle. Tohru has become quite strong. We have seen her ‘perfect’ side in the previous season but this season shows her strength as well as her weaknesses but she tend to keep her vulnerable side at bay. It was not the first time when a zodiac member seek help from Tohru in emotional matters but we have always seen Tohru comforting them with relaxing speech. This was the first time when she only said just one thing “It’s scary to be on your own”. It’s not something her other has said but something she has experienced herself in the past as there were tears in her eyes with a flashback from her childhood while she said that. Tohru has started to feel depressed as the feelings that she had suppressed and buried inside her heart will lead to breakdown soon. Shigure mentioned about something breaking and it seems like it wasn’t just the curse but it is also referred to Tohru. There is something that has been bothering her and almost get to breaking point. There are also some vague flashbacks that has something to do with the quest5ion that Rin asked her. It seems like that it will be revealed soon.

Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 19: Review

Tohru has lived her life alone having no siblings and just a single mother and after her mother’s death she was left all alone. She found two friends who love and care about her but no one can replace the place that her mother has in her heart. We have always seen her smiling even after such a major setback in her life that could have change her for her entire life but she suppressed the feelings of grievance and hid them under her smiling face. But now it seems that she is no longer able to hold back those emotions as there something that has been bothering her and the break down is soon going to happen.

The episode was the rollercoaster ride of emotions but there were some hilarious moments that made us laugh out loud. Rin seems to get better and Haru seems happy too. The laughed hard on the intercom scene and Yuki’s reaction was the cherry on top. The student council is a nice comic relief that perfectly balance all the emotional drama of the anime. It’s good to see that Yuki is part of such an eccentric group of people. That’s exactly what he needed as their interactions and shenanigans brings the best out of him.
