Beastars Episode 12 Review

[the_ad_group id="23498"]

So, Beastar ended on an emotional note. I almost thought that Legosi would be very annoyed when he got on the stage because of Juno in order to insult her. It could be very hilarious but we all know Legosi would never do that. Probably unintentionally.

The passionate scene was interrupted by the instincts of Haru but still they managed to sleep together after going through that awkwardness and uneasiness. The awkwardness continued when they return to school next day but they tried to pretend nothing happened. This episode was dedicated to the romantic relationship of Haru and Legosi. It was probably to get over with their arc so that some other things will be the focus in the next season. There are a lot of things to consider in their relationship including rising passion, incompatibility and the society’s perception towards their relationship. Juno was another in issue in their relationship.

I’m still confused regarding Juno. I can’t say that I really admire her but her actions make sense. She seems like a person with dual personality and I don’t like her insecure desire for Legosi. It’s very obvious that he doesn’t like her but keeps trying getting closer regardless of what he feels. She is forcefully trying to make him fall for her but Haru is her rival. The scene where she face Haru is very important as it’s their first confrontation and with Juno being at the festival made Haru uncomfortable. Although Legosi explicitly told Juno that he is not interested but she is very consistent. She is quite mean and the scene she created on the stage was to humiliate Haru but it was also for some positive impact on carnivores. She could be mean in terms of romantic relationship but her selfishness is not restricted to herself as she aims to become a Beastar for the sake of carnivores. She proved that and made it obvious with the smile she gave to the drama club. It’s not that hard to understand her as the reasons are quite obvious so it completely makes sense why she is doing this for them. Since Louis is out of the picture, the chances of her becoming a Beastar is high. If that happens, I’m curious what changes will occur in school. The scene where Juno was following Haru was quite funny.

All in all the most interesting thing in this episode the romantic scenes of Legosi and Haru. Haru being considerate complete makes sense. The scene where Juno stepped on stage with Legosi while the audience clapping and cheering somehow defined their relationship. Not to mention the uncomfortable moments of them in bed. Two wolves can have a relationship but a wolf and rabbit can’t have the same relationship. In my opinion it’s okay even if there is a relationship between different species of the same group but the relationship between a carnivore and an herbivore is an odd one. They are seen as a predator and a prey. It’s hard to acknowledge them as a couple. That was shown one time when they shared foo during dinner and people around them were laughing at them and passing comments. If they are seen as a couple by the world, they will be hated by all. Also it is true what Haru mentioned about the risk of being eaten by him in the future at some point.

There are so many conflicts and obstacles but there is no denying that they both feel the same. The more she tries to get closer on the stairs, the more he follows her to admit it. He get closer while she is standing beside him. For him, it won’t make any difference to have relationship with his own type as he always finds the darkness inside him. But it would be better for him to be with Haru, but it’s the strength that he needs the most. It was visually beautiful how they both looked at the city at the same time as it shows that they one day they will have to counter the world together if they won’t end their relationship. It was a powerful scene.

It’s good to see how Legosi has developed as a character. It was a good end of the season but there are some small loopholes. First, how did school let Legosi and Haru attend the festival together considering the lion mafia. Second, how come Louis was not missed by Hary for even just a moment? There were some feelings for him that she had. It felt like something is missing.

Final Thought

There is no doubt that this anime is one of my favorite and it’s very interesting anime. Everything about this anime was great especially the theme which was visualize a very fascinating manner. The dilemma of the characters was shown in a very interesting way. It was very unique for a shounen as I have never seen such themes in that genre. Beastar is a character-focused series that showed romance differently. The difference of two different groups, herbivores and carnivores cannot be depicted better than the way Beastars has done with its anthropomorphic characters.

I didn’t like this anime at first as I am not really interested in human like animal themes. For me it’s really bizarre. But for those who actually find this interesting should definitely watch this. Since I’m not really interested in this theme so I didn’t plan to watch it but after hearing so much about it from the fans I started watching it out of curiosity and now I’m happy that I changed my mind. Because otherwise I would have missed a very good anime. There are many people who are not interested in watching these kind of shows with human-like-animals characters but I would recommend it to all as it has the potential to grab attention of even those who are not into this concept. Take example of me. I started reluctantly but soon started to like it and now I love it. Yes, there are few things that you would still find odd. Although sex is not explicitly shown but it’s weird to just visualize a rabbit having sex with various animals. But Beastar has done a really great job in overcoming those weirdness. I was actually wishing for more. Legosi is my favorite character.

The animation is one of the biggest strength of this anime. Studio Orange has done an excellent job with CG. The direction was on point, the opening theme is the best theme of this year. The story and the characters are very intriguing. It was a great show. What I learned is that don’t judge anything without knowing about it completely. I won’t be afraid of trying new things after watching Beastar. This show is highly recommended to all.

The announcement of season 2 was a great news for me. I was not happy when I thought that there will be only 12episdes. Now I’m excited and can’t wait. Season 1 ended with a cliffhanger and there finally be an investigation for the death of Tem. Who is the killer? We all can guess with some hints. I’m planning to watch the early episodes to find it out. They are finally getting on that topic as Tem was forgotten for a while. I would rate this show 9 out of 10.
