Kenja no Mago

Shin Wolford an ordinary human living in our normal human world until he died and was born again another world as a baby. The world he has been reincarnated is a magic world and not an ordinary one. The strongest sorcerers of that world took him and raised him. Shin has a unique way of observing and performing magic. He uses his scientific skills to use magic which doesn’t make him the most powerful mage of his era but one of them. Although, he is still growing when it comes to knowledge, yet to unravel many magic mysteries. The anime focuses on Shin developing his common sense in the magic world and there is much more to the series.

We all know and seen the anime where the guy is teleported to a different kind of world where he has some sort of unique talent and becomes the powerful guy in that universe. This anime has an interesting contrast which features development of the character Shin, digging deep into the logic of magic and about the kingdoms shown in this world which is a significant part in the main plot.

One thing that many people disliked about this anime is that the character Shin is has been portrayed as too strong. But in order to maintain the serious parody theme of this anime, it is important to show him overpowered with some seriousness. The weight of seriousness and series of tropes are balanced while focusing on a 15 year old character being a skilled mage. We will talk about few but big tropes that contribute to this anime being a serious parody.

First we have Shin, the main hero of the story being born again after dying in a truck accident, and he is more powerful than legendary sorcerer, Merlin. Shin was able to annihilate demons at the age of 10. Even Merlin can’t understand the miraculous magic he learned. Sizilien, is the girl he falls in love with at first sight, he also helps her in getting rid of a guy who is forcing her to be his wife. The guy ends up becoming a demon but it wasn’t so difficult to kill him. There are tons of more, but this proves that the anime is our very own isekai anime and also the huge parody ripping on a lot of the most common themes and tropes.

While other kids his age are using unusual hymn and getting only shred of magic out, Shin is able to use high quality magic in a blink. He knows the elements he needs to combine for an effective spell. His imagination power lets him create the super result he wants. That is because Shin is from a real world and studied science growing up. He fundamentally understands that, like how certain chemicals react after being combined. The experience he have from the former world helped him become a unique mage.

Oliver Schtrom, a mastermind who is also familiar with science, uses his furtive research in Earlshide Kingdom, successfully discovers how to create demon like creatures after becoming a demonoid himself. Kurt von Rietsburg, the guy obsessed over Sizilien, was his first successful experiment. After that he conquers Bluesphere Kingdom where he was born. His main goal is to make the citizens of Bluesphere become demon like creatures and wage war against Earlshide Kingdom. Shin and his friends now becomes the ultimate guardians of Earlshide Kingdom.

Earlshide kingdom is the first place we get to know about. The king of Earlshide kingdom is Diseum von Earlshide who is called ‘uncle Dis’ by Shin. After defeating the first demon alongside his partner, Melinda, Melim is in a good relation with King. The aristocrats of the kingdom aims to protect their people in the best of their capabilities and for that they need the compulsory education for their children till the age 15. Their army is categorized in to two divisions, knight order and Magic division who learns to fight and support those in the other division. Earlshide kingdom has allied all countries except Bluesphere Kingdom

Bluesphere Kingdom is opposite of Earlshide kingdom. It has rather more focus in season 1. It consist of many merged and powerful countries. In this kingdom the elites have been given powerful status in particular fields. Their agenda is quite different from those of Earlshide Kingdom as they try to gain benefits from the people. The living condition is not good and so the people are migrating from there which lead to less tax revenue because most of them have left. The jealous nobles involves them in killing the wife of Oliver Schtrom which turns Oliver against them. He threatens and kills them before he leaves to start his experiment. After he succefully demonize Kurt, he returns town and turns them in demonoid creatures to make an army and use them against Earlshide Kingdom and Shin and that’s where season 1 ends.
