Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 2 Episode 11: Review

This episode involved so many emotions. It was all about Ishigami where we finally get to know about his past and the reason why he is not liked by any girl in the school and why he is been pessimist throughout the season 1. It was actually nice to see him having fun I the beginning of the episode as the event. I like that Kaguya’s and lino’s friend were also happy for him.

The episode throws light on Ishigami as a character and it was interesting to watch such a detailed demonstration. There are so may things that we get know about Ishigami like his negativity being the biggest hinderance in his life due to which he was not able to make any progress in life. But if we look back to previous season, Ishigami has come a long way as we can see a drastic change in his character where he is willing to move ahead rather than holding on to his failures…. But then his past comes in his way. I was actually enjoying the entertaining elements of the event and missed out on the fact that Ishigami has reunited with the girl he used to “stalked” in middle school. He was not changing and becoming positive for his problematic past to come back and become a hurdle for him, making him negative again. I didn’t’ like watching it as I was happy to see Ishigami being happy for once.

In the previous review, I mentioned about how cheerleading team is shown without eyes and that was indeed for a reason as they are shown from the Ishigami’s view. That is how he look at some people. It proved when he spoke with eye contact to a classmate that didn’t have eyes previously. Although it was hard to see when he couldn’t make an eye contact with two of his closest friends, Kaguya and Shirogane, who are there for him in bad times.

I like cheerleading team supporting him even at a time like this when his past slapped him infront of everyone. Everyone froze when captain mentioned about his past, but fortunately it was all about his speed. They all are very supportive and encouraging and he just needs to understand that. They al nice to him, excluding his classmates but he hasn’t realized that yet.

Ishigami’s discussion regarding Otome was more about how grateful he is to her rather than romantic feelings concealed in it. He should to be thankful to her as she is the only one who talked with him in middle school. It’s quite interesting that he doesn’t look down on the guy she started dating later. According to him, if he truly had feelings for her then things would not have been complicated. He is a genuine well-wisher of that girl and then there was her boyfriend.

Ishigami was always in favor of justice even in middle school like lino. He didn’t like that Otomo’s boyfriend was not loyal to her and he called on his boyfriend on this matter. Ishigami wanted to Otomo to be happy but her boyfriend was very pathetic. He didn’t just frivolously ignored what Ishigami was trying to tell him but he had the guts to make a disgusting offer to him to keep his secret. He told him to sleep with his girlfriend. He is the epitome of disgusting man. Ishigami did the right thing by beating him hard.

He didn’t stop there and the most furious part is when he did all that drama infront of everyone as if he is the most innocent person in class and then accused Ishigami of stalking Otomo. He didn’t just falsely accused Ishigami but made up some stories to strengthen his allegations like Ishigami is in love with her and wanted him to leave her for which reason he was beating him up. Sadly everyone believed in that crap as Ogino is the popular guy. How pathetic! He is one of the most self-centered persons on the series even while he was being beaten up in the hands of Ishigami, all he cared about was his face being ruined.

It was hard to see all this happening with Ishigami. Even if he made a mistake and didn’t handle the situation in the right manner but it is untestable why he acted that way and became so violent even if it made him a bad guy. He could have come clean but it would have been all in vein. I feel bad for Ishigami as he has been the victim of injustice. What’s even more unfair is that an innocent guy was accused of something bad and the real culprit was seen as a victim I the whole situation. It’s very annoying.  I can understand why he Ishigami couldn’t make himself to write him apology letter. Seeing how he has been treated after that in school by teachers, students and his own father being abusive physically and verbally, his suicidal nature in the first season makes total sense. He was alone and there was absolutely no one by his side. But what makes me furious is that his negativity was shown as a pun in the first season.

But thankfully Shirogane saved the day both in past and present. I loved how he gave his headband to him assuring him that he is with him and he was the first person who he saw with eyes after being negative again. I was so happy when Shirogane explained the logic behind Ishigai’s action. The scene was perfectly written with all that music while Ishigami relaxing after confirming about wellbeing of Otomo and Shirogane bringing back positivity in Ishigami. It was heartwarming to see Shirogane saying those positive words to Ishigami that he was longing to hear that he was right and did the right thing and the letter that he should have written to that pathetic guy should be “Go to hell, dumbass!!”. I Am happy that Shirogane is not like other who blindly believed in whatever the popular guy told but instead he did his own research to deduce a concrete fact.

I’m glad that Ishigami talked to Otomo with such confidence. It was nice to see him running with others with such positivity and the way he steeped a foot and expressed his confidence that he is no longer the old Ishigami who always has been negative about himself. I like that he began to see the cheerleading team with their eyes as he did realize how supportive they had been.

The concept of eyes was very interesting. Even his hairstyle was the symbolism of his negativity as he was dwelling in his past. While he was falling in the negative pit again, both of his eyes were covered in his hair. And in the end when he is positive, both of his eyes can be seen. The whole episode was filled with symbolisms.
