What is a Monster Musume?
Monster Musume are anime girls that have extreme monster features. In other words, they are humanoid mythical creatures.
Miia is a snake girl. A hybrid species with a human appearance on the upper half of its body and a long snake tail starting from the hips. In Western mythology, such creatures are called Lamia. These half species have appeared in many western movies such as Clash of the Titans, The Golden Child, and The Wolverine to name a few.
What Is A Lamia?
In Greek mythology, Lamia was a beautiful queen and another one of Zeus’s affairs. According to one myth, when Hera, Zeus’s wife, learned about them, Hera stole Lamia’s children and cursed her. Hera made it so she wouldn’t be able to sleep anymore and endlessly suffer the loss of her children.
As a result, Queen Lamia lost her mind and started kidnapping and devouring any child she could lay her hands on. This atrocious act changed her appearance to resemble part snake and part human.
In later tradition, the word lamia was used to refer to demons who seduce men at night and feed on them.
Monster Musume: Everyday Life With Monster Girls
In Monster Musume, aka MonMusu, humans discovered that fantasy creatures from fairy tales are real, and the two worlds want to live in harmony.
So the government created an exchange program to learn more about each other’s cultures. Humans could volunteer to host the newfound humanoids, and one of the candidates is Kimihito Kurusu.
The program has strict rules forbidding romantic relationships between the species, due to the diplomatic chaos that would be created if a half-human and human were to marry. However, every day is a new challenge for Kimihito, who now cares for gorgeous monster girls madly in love with him. Among them is the snake girl, Miia.
About Miia, The Lamia
Miia is one of the main characters of Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls. She is also the first to live with the story’s male lead, Kimihito Kurusu.
Miia is deeply obsessed with Kimihito and gets jealous when other monster girls show interest in him, making her a dangerous one to have around. Yet, she has an independent activity pass that allows her to go outside without human supervision.
Some fun facts about Miia, is that her birthday is on October 31, making her a Scorpio. She is especially talented at climbing trees, and swimming. She can even keep up with a mermaid!
Appearance
Miia is a young woman with long straight red hair, generous oppai, and a slim waist. Her three sizes are 86 – 55 – 90.
Due to her reptile genes, she has amber eyes with slit pupils and pointy red ears. She has a long-forked tongue, fangs, and scales on her cheeks that are the same color as her ears. Miia also has a powerful tail that starts right under her hips.
She usually stands at 173cm, although her length is eight meters long.
Other Physical Traits
Being partially a reptile, Miia is cold-blooded. So being exposed to low temperatures affects her metabolism, making her feel the need to hibernate. Her skin sheds from time to time, making her feel highly embarrassed.
Her tail is also powerful and sensitive at the same time, especially at the tip.
Another characteristic related to her monster genes is her sense of taste. It’s extremely weak compared to humans and other species, which makes her a terrible cook. She can’t tell whether the food she prepares tastes good or not.
Personality
Miia is a cheerful and romantic character but also short-tempered and possessive. Like the demon from mythology, she has a high sexual drive, which intensifies when Miia is under the effect of the full moon.
But despite her lustful side, Miia can be shy at times, acting like a tsundere and reacting violently when Kimihito does something inappropriate accidentally.
Background
Lamias in Monster Musume are a species consisting of only female individuals that live in villages near a desert oasis. To reproduce, they would lure a human man into their villages to serve as a husband for the entire village.
Miia, the daughter of her tribe’s leader, is the first snake girl sent to find a communal human husband for her tribe. When she was younger, she liked to read human stories and dreamed of being carried in a prince’s arms.
Living with Kimihito
Miia is the first monster girl to move in with Kimihito under the cultural exchange program and quickly falls in love with him. The program has strict rules against intimate contact between humans and other species, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to get closer. She recurrently sneaks into Kimihito’s bedroom and wraps her tail around him.
Miia loves eating eggs, and before other monster girls started living with them, Kimihito would cook for her every day.
Miia Merchandise
Miia is one of the most popular characters of Monster Musume: Everyday Life With Monster Girls. Her voluptuous and unusual body has inspired several anime merchandise for adults and general audiences, including a seven-meter-long (life-sized) dakimakura.
For example, subscribers vote for the characters and anime they like best at The Otaku Box, and Miia has been chosen more than once. She’s had anime merchandise designed after her, including an anime figure.
Final Thoughts
The Monster Musume Miia is a lively anime girl created with great attention to detail. Her snake features and connections to the myth are believable rather than simply aesthetic.
She is a famous female character among harem anime and manga fans today, especially those who take an interest in the beauty of hybrid anime girls like her and other monster ladies.
