Tengen Uzui Wives – Demon Slayer

Find all about Tengen Uzui Wives Hinatsuru, Makio and Suma from Demon Slayer. Why does Tengen Uzui have three wives. What are their names & their characters.

Tengen Uzui has three wives: Hinatsuru, Makio, and Suma. Tengen Uzui is a Sound Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps and a pivotal character in the anime fantasy series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

Despite Tengen’s claim that he has three wives because he is flamboyant, pointers show that his family practices polygamy, according to which fathers choose their sons’ spouses when they turn 15; however, in Tengen’s case, contrary to his shinobi family’s custom, one of his wives, Suma, approached him on her own.

How Old Are Tengen Uzui’s Wives?

The three female ninjas Tengen Uzui is married to are all between the ages of 19 and 21. Tengen Uzui is a 23-year-old. Suma is Tengen’s youngest wife and is 19 years old. The eldest wife, Hinatsuru, is 21 years old, while Makio is 20. Tengen and his wives do not have a significant age difference.

Why Does Tengen Uzui Have 3 Wives?

Tengen Uzui claimed that he chose three marriages because he is flamboyant, but the precise reason why has not been thoroughly explained. Nevertheless, Tanjiro revealed in the episode’s outro that the Uzui family practices polygamy and that the family head selects the man’s three brides based on their compatibility when he turns 15 years old.

Suma was the only person to initially contact Tengen besides Hinatsuru and Makio without being selected. All of Tengen’s wives are great Kunoichis, and he has the utmost respect for them all.

Polygamy has been practiced since the Hein Period, and it persisted during the Edo Era, a time of devastating battles and other natural disasters that also claimed the lives of the Shinobi. The goal of polygamy during the time, as opposed to simply having more wives, was to increase the number of warriors in a family so that they could resist the harsh realities.

The Uzui Clan continued to practice polygamy even though it was no longer required during the Taisho Dynasty, the period shown in the anime. Tengen followed the tradition of his clan for the benefit of his family and wed all three of his wives almost simultaneously.

Tengen Uzui’s Wives and Their Personalities

Hinatsuru

  • Age: 21
  • Hair Color: Black
  • Eye Color: Violet
  • Sex: Female
  • Race: Human
  • Height: Average

Hinatsuru, often known as Hina, is a figure who is known for being peaceful, compassionate, and nurturing. She is the eldest of Tengen’s wives. Her family is second only to the Uzui family and ranks, and she was brought up to be a courageous Kunoichi who is strategic in battle. This was demonstrated in her clash with Gyutaro and Daki during the story arc centered on the Entertainment area.

Hina has a lot of love for her husband, and she also has sympathy for him.

Makio

  • Age: 20
  • Hair Color: Black and yellow
  • Eye Color: light brown
  • Sex: Female
  • Race: Human
  • Height: Average

Makio is Tenzen Uzui’s second or third distant cousin. She is the middle wife in terms of age and has a reputation for being rowdy, aggressive, and raucous at times. When it comes to Suma, Makio has little to no patience for her, as witnessed when the women fought an underground cavern. Makio accuses Suma of being a coward, as seen when Makio berates Suma for being a coward.

When it comes to her husband Tengen, though, Makio has a soft spot for him, despite the fact that her demeanor may be fairly harsh at times.

Suma

  • Age: 19
  • Hair Color: Black
  • Eye Color: Sapphire
  • Sex: Female
  • Race: Human
  • Height: Short

The youngest of Tengen Uzui’s spouses is a woman named Suma. Suma, who is bisexual, bypassed her younger sister, who was supposed to be Tengen’s bride, by approaching Tengen herself when she barged into the marriage interview. This allowed Suma to overtake her younger sister and become Tengen’s wife instead.

Suma has a pattern of being excessively theatrical, cowardly, and displaying a personality of a damsel in distress. She has a tendency to exaggerate her feelings, and she is typically timid and lacks self-assurance when confronted with potentially harmful circumstances. Suma has an easy time shedding tears, and when she gets into an argument with her other wives, she acts immaturely in a way that bothers them all, but especially Makio.

Tengen Uzui’s Wives Voice Actors

The popular anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, which was made by Koyoharu Gotouge, had Tengen Uzui’s three wives show up in the Entertainment District arc of season 2 of the anime.

The second season of Kimetsu no yaiba: Demon Slayer premiered in December 2021 and concluded in February 2022. The wives of Tengen showed up this season. The wives were played by the real-life actors Nao Toyama, Shizuka Ishigami, and Atsumi Tanezaki.

Atsumi Tanezaki, a voice actor, portrays Hinatsuru, Tengen Uzui’s senior wife. She was born on September 17, 1990. Atsumi claims that Sailor Moon had an impact on her choice to become a voice actress.

Her portrayal in “Sailor Senshi Dies! The Tragic Final Battle,” episode 45 of the TV anime, served as inspiration for her decision to pursue acting. She left Oita Prefecture, where she had been casually studying acting, and relocated to Tokyo in order to join in a training program using the money she had made from her job.

Since the second season’s airing in December 2021 and conclusion in February 2022, Atsumi has been a part of the show. The current arc’s plot has been propelled by Hina’s disappearance and the disappearances of Uzui’s other spouses, despite the fact that she received relatively little screen time as the kind Hina.

The voices for Mujika in The Promised Neverland, Arisa Uotani in Fruits Basket, and Juno in Beastars were all given by Atsumi Tanezaki, a Japanese voice actress who has appeared in numerous anime series.

During the 14th Voice Actor Awards in 2020, she won Best Supporting Actress.

Shizuka Ishigami As Makio

Shizuka Ishigami, who was born on September 24, 1988, provides Makio’s voice. The Japanese voice actress was once associated with 81 Produce, but she is currently associated with Pro-Fit. Shizuka also appears in publications for adult video games with the alias Mei Hanazono.

She is most known for her voice performance in Darling in the Franxx and Arknights as Ikuno and Ch’en, respectively. She had originally planned to pursue a career as a mangaka, but after trying out for a voice part in a video game, she changed her mind.

Shizuka debuted in season 2 of the program. Fans may still be familiar with Japanese voice actress Shizuka Ishigami’s work since she is also well known for her roles as Nat in the promised neverland and as Ikumi Mito in Food Wars: Shokugeki No Soma. Her character as the brash Makio was remarkable, and despite being one of the minor characters in the new entries and one of the show’s lesser-known voice actors, fans may still be familiar with her work.

Nao Toyama As Suma

Nao Toyama is a Japanese voice actress, singer, and Suma’s voice. Her damsel-in-distress role is well-played. The show has featured Nao since December 2021.

Nao, who plays Kanon Nakagawa in The World God Only Knows and Chitoge Kirisaki in Nisekoi, is an Arts Vision affiliate singer with INTENTION. “True Destiny / Chain the World,” a Flying Dog double A-side, marked her vocal debut on February 1, 2017. “True Destiny” was the anime series’ ending theme, and “Chain the World” was the film’s opening theme.

When scripting with a buddy of a classmate who wanted to be a voice actress, she fell in love with acting and chose to become a voice actor in her second year of junior high. As a reward for her college entrance exam preparation, her parents allowed her to study voice acting. After three years at the Japan Narration Actors Institute, she auditioned for Arts Vision. High school freshman, she started attending.
