Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 4: Review

Episode 4 of Fruits Basket Season 2 seemed a little dark than the previous episodes and has reached to the point where things seem to take a serious turn. It’s moving towards a darker tone and it’s getting a little intense with Haru turning dark in the class and destroying everything for being ditched. It’s not the first time we saw Haru turning dark but this time it was different and a little more serious as he also involved Tohru in his rage. But thanks to Mayu, who literally cooled down the heated up situation.

It was the first time we heard about Haru’s parents and although we didn’t get to see his mother, the way e mentioned her described his relation with her. When he was asked to wait for his parent’s arrival he said “she’ll take an hour to put on makeup” which shows that she cares more about her image and appearance than her son. It’s not very surprising as we haven’t seen an normal relation between the zodiac members and their parents. In fact Haru’s relation with his parents does seem better than many others but it still not a normal one. There is till the hint of love and care lacking in this relationship as well, which is quite sad.

Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 4: Review

In the past episode we get to see Yuki getting close to Ayame and in my previous review I mentioned how admirable their relation is but in this episode we get to see Haru’s contribution in the development of Yuki’s character. I like how Haru was considerate towards relation of Yuki with Tohru even at the time he was not fine himself by asking Yuki to call Tohru by her first name. Haru has been the best support since the beginning and is always there for Yuki and this makes Yuki feel closer to him as he understands Haru’s nature and tries to support him when he needs help. The relationship of Yuki and Haru is what could have been between Kyo and Yuki and Kyo would not be so stubborn about hating Yuki and could see his good nature. Haru knows that Yuki didn’t chose for the life he has lived so far and is surrounded by many issues that keeps haunting him. That is the reason why Haru completely understands Yuki and cares for him.

I’m glad that Yuki realizes his selfish nature and admit that is not the right thing. He has always cared about himself and all he has done so far it has always been for himself. But Yuki has brought a lot of change in himself. It can be seen in this episode how he decided to see Haru after school and didn’t leave him alone. He has started to become considerate towards others and and making efforts to open up infront of those who care about him. This change in his character can be seen in this episode that he muster up the courage to visit Sohma estate by himself and even though Tohru asked to go with him but he decided refused to accept her help this time. It was like he was finally taking a step to breakthrough his fears and when he entered the gate of Sohma estate was one of the best scene of this season so far. He has surely some a long way. I didn’t expect Yuki to actually visit the estate as he has still not overcome his trauma and Sohma estate is the place which brings back all the darkest memories. It was the big achievement for Yuki. And this courageous act did not just end there as he was able to ignore the warnings of the maids that he ran into after entering the Sohma estate. I cheered for him when he walked away.

Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 4: Review

After Ayame Haru is the most hilarious character in the series and the episode that is focused on Haru is always funny. Even while watching this episode when Haru was not emotionally stable, I could not stop from my self from laughing out loud on some of the spontaneous actions of Haru. For instance he adds the word ‘mystery’ to everything that he can’t understand and the way he suddenly took out his mobile to take a selfie with Yuki was very funny. But Haru does have logical reason for taking a selfie as it was the first time that Yuki came to the estate by himself and with his own will. Haru is truly a great friend and Yuki can see that as he is tries to be there for him too. And he was able to give the support that Haru needed as he opened up about Rin and told him the secret relation he had with her. Even Haru says that he is the only one he has told about this which show how much he trusts Yuki. But sadly, Haru loves Rin a lot and is doesn’t seem to let her go so easily. Let’s see how their relations continues from here.

I like how Kyo keeps thinking about his pat actions as he is s having hard time getting out of his that darkness inside of him. On the other hands Yuki is able to move forward where he is shown running towards the exit gate of the Sohma estate and that was the moment of happiness for all Yuki fans as it seemed like he finally stepping forward towards the freedom with a smile on his face. It’s is also a proud moment for Yuki because it seems like he is going to leave behind all his fears. But the episode ended with Rin standing behind looking at him suspiciously as if he is doing something wrong.

Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 4: Review

All in all this episode was really great that highlighted some major things about few characters revealing their inner feelings while showing the developments in these characters, which include Haru, Kyo and Yuki. One thing that was highlighted in this episode was the relation between Kyo and Tohru that even they haven’t realized yet but everyone standing in the room noticed that. On one hand we saw some development in the relationship of Kyo and Tohru whle on the hand we could see that Yuki is starting to distant himself from Tohru and trying to do things on his own without her support. It’s a good thing for Yuki as he needs that courage to take step on his own and that’s exactly what he has always wished for himself.

Kyo seems to be trapped in his past and it seem like he is a little confused about his future since he is going to be trapped after he graduates. He also seems to be acting a little different while interacting with Toru considering the fact, he almost killed her by pushing her off the cliff. Although he seemed a bit closer to her in the previous episodes of this season and that is probably because the episodes are not in the order of the manga as there are many things that have been shown but happens a lot later in the manga. But I guess this is the start of Kyo realizing a few things about himself and probably his relation with Tohru as well. I really hope he doesn’t get furious again if things don’t work out.

On a lighter note, how can we forget the moment of our cute Momoji when he said Haru is ‘suspected’. I’m sure I’m not the only one who thought it was the error of subtitles until Yuki corrected him and said he meant ‘suspended’. That actually made me laugh.
