Chihayafuru S3 Episode 23: Review

The episode was relaxing with no intense scene until a storm came. It was calm and sweet when Taichi recalled the time when the first Genpei match happened where he played alongside Arata and Chihaya. The surprise party was on full swing and even Taichi enjoyed it (and thankfully Arata did not attend the party, maybe because of living too far). He also made a move towards Chihaya. It was quite funny when Chihaya said the winner would get a kiss from Taichi.

We finally get to see the confession, we always wanted to see and I must say it was quite a confession. It was not just the confession of how he felt about her but also explained why he felt that way and it was the sweetest thing to see in the entire episode. It was very heartwarming and what made it even more appealing was the gorgeous animation. The whole scene was perfectly written an animated which was compelling and overwhelming too. It was unforgettable.

And that was the time when the storm came in. Chihaya was shocked and nervous after hearing his confession and replied in a very low voice that he didn’t hear the complete sentence due to “the bell and presumed that she rejected him as all he could hear was “I’m sorry” and since we all know Chihaya, there is no way that it was all she meant, She would have said something more.

What happened after the confession was the worst. Three is a little awkwardness between Taichi and Chihaya but Taichi tries to act normal for the sake of the club. When they were just a few seconds away from giving the club presentation in front of the newbies, the Empress entered to tell about Taichi’s official resignation from the club and that’s was the most shocking and worst moment of the episode.

I do understand that his grades are not good and he is having some issues with his mother and now it is hard for him to face Chihaya since she has (supposedly) rejected him. We can understand that these all troubles are the valid reason for him to resign from the club but it is the timing of such an announcement that doesn’t make any sense. The day of club presentation is not the right time for this. And even though things are not normal between him and Chihaya and in the middle of so many troubles it’s not just easy for him to focus on Karuta because we understand that he is suffering but still it is not the right way and he should consider Chihaya’s feelings before making this rash decision. But yes, without any doubt he could not have done this if he had told this to Chihaya. But they are such good friends, she must have felt bad for getting to know about this through an announcement.

After that, there was another shocking moment, the kiss

This was something I have been thinking about and thought that this is going to be a painful cliffhanger in the season finale which will make everyone crazy. It’s been a while since I stopped reading the manga and while I was reading the RAWS on a daily basis, this was one of those two moments that was vaguely in my mind. The other was Arata’s confession. It’s been a really long time but I still remember what my reaction was when I read it in the manga and it is still the same. What The Hell Taichi!!! This Is Not Right! I am going to continue the manga after this season ends which is going to end soon.

As I mentioned earlier! I would repeat that again for this moment as well, bad timing!! And Taichi Cup Reward is the most ridiculous excuse at a time like this. I understand that he is also a human with emotions but is it really the right time to show them? He should have considered the situation and the timing and this a bad situation with the worst timing. Now that the show is getting closer to its ending, this is getting uglier, everyone one is having some sort of troubles. This is one hell of a storm.

In the meantime, in Fukui where Arata is, we get to know that about the ‘impassionate’ card in the game he played against Taichi. It is revealed that it was the unread card but Arata has realized that Taichi tried to engage and was well prepared to take that card in case it is read. He questioned who would have taken that card and if Taichi had succeeded to snatch it, would the game had been the same till the end. Where Taichi is dealing with so many troubles at the time, Arata wishes to have another match with him.

Arata will be making Karuta Club in his school. The brothers of Nagumo society will be the newbies in his school.

The next episode will be the last episode and the club is already in such a mess. It’s going to be one hell of a dramatic climax. I am wishing for the next season already. I really hope they announce something about that before the airing of the next episode. I can’t even imagine waiting for many years.
