Ahiru no Sora Episode 13 – Review

It’s hard to believe that we are hardly at the beginning of the training Camp day 3. But one thing is for sure, our team of delinquents might never have had a chance to go on beaches of Okinawa but yet we have been provided some nice old fan service of training camp. We got to see some batch scene and even a bikini girl. In addition to that and most importantly, there is some serious things going on and that means Character Development!!

I keep arguing with myself about this series. At one point I think that there is still so much to show in one episode. But then at some other point it feels like a good thing when it comes to character development because that is going to matter a lot in the future when something big occurs and when I look back it seems that the character development has been on point in this one episode. It’s just humor that interrupts that. Probably the reason why I think like that is that I’m accustomed to watching short series that I couldn’t think from the perspective of the long anime.

The character development of Kite in this episode was really intriguing except for some quite ugly comments to some players. It was rather an authentic communication. Although he was not the center of attention in this episode but he was surely the initiator. This episode showed a different side of Kite which was kind of friendly and brother like where he throw light at different techniques that gave the chance to the team to get better. The scene between Yasu and Kite and was very heartwarming and. He clearly shows a rather soft attitude when it comes to Yasu as Yasu is devoted to help the team in getting better and reach interhigh. That shift us to Nabe and Chuckie who seems to like get going with the team but are not as much dedicated as other players.

I appreciate how they added this struggle part which is not usually been showed. They (including Yasu) are not as experienced as the others in the team so they have to start from the beginning. They are just getting started and having fun with the others. While Kite and Sora are desperate to not just get to the interhigh but win it too as they are skilled and capable to win but they can’t do it alone, they need the team’s assistance. So it’s good that they included this conflict although I think that it won’t be very shocking to see one of them or both of them quit. But let’s see what happens in the next episode.

One thing that I didn’t like was that Momoharu didn’t stay for long. But maybe it will have a great impact later with regards to the character development of others as he was kind of boss for Nabe, Yasu and Chuckie before joining the team. If he would be present during the clash with Kite, then he might be able to handle the situation as they would have listened to him. But since he is not there so they would probably just follow each other. (Although I think that Yasu has somewhat taken a separate path). In my opinion Momoharu is one of the most sensible guy in the team and for that reason he can easily handle these kind of situation and calm someone. After him, Sora is the one who could act as a mediator and though he is a skilled sportsman, nobody seems to give him the respect he deserves. Kite is not an easy one (and also Chiaki) but after watching a good side of Kite I think he would give respect to Momoharu since he takes the sport seriously. So, although it makes me angry that didn’t stay, I think it is going to be a good thing in the mid of this tension.

I am eagerly waiting for the next episode. It feels like the next episode is going to give a big twist in terms of team’s spirit. Will this conflict help them get closer or will it become the cause of their separation. We’ll find in that in the next episode.
