Zeref and Mavis’ had an unpleasant end, but it also depicts a shade of mythology and folklore. Both of them have faced the loss of their loved ones because of the Curse of Contradiction from which they have to keep them safe. This storyline is a bit alike the old legend of Cupid and Psyche. We can also witness shade of unfamiliar stories like Norwegian East of the Sun, West of the Moon. In which a girl has to let go of her lover and then she set out on an adventure to bring him back. In this season the protagonist Zeref and Mavis had done the same. Both of them have to die to be together, which is a bit opposing as compare to the normal, happy endings we mostly witness in normal love stories. But in the end, we see that they both become petals rising towards the heavens and we can understand that finally in the end they are content to be together.
In this episode we can observe that Zeref and Mavis find joy because they are able to see the qualities in each other which cannot be seen by others. This plot is slightly close to the storyline of Cinderella found in some Native American cultures. But certainly we cannot ignore the story of Jellal and Erza. In this season Jellal is upset to be able to breathe again because he had consider that if he will die by his own will he would be free from his sins. But Erza and Jenny try to make him understand that his job is to be alive he may have done awful things but now he have to forget those memories and should focus on his upcoming life. Erza is the one who can see his good qualities which he himself cannot recognize.
Maybe we were a bit quick to celebrate the happy ending. We had seen many shifts like how Zeref’s character had an end and Mavis’s life filled with contentment. The character of Natsu’s was altered to a human but stop! Did this really was up to the mark? If we look it makes clear that Lucy had put a stop on her skills on writing, by using the ability of his demon slayer Gray was able to remove the remains from Lucy’s skin and we saw that a worn out Natsu reaches his house for a very little time and he disappeared when Happy, Gray, and Lucy try to talk with him. Did the enchantment perform by Lucy not work? If it was unable to work so definitely it had created a line between Zeref and Mavis at that time when they both were not capable of doing something to keep each other safe. Maybe they have to again face hurdles coming in their way.
When Erza and Wendy saw a massive split in the sky we can surely understand that something terrible is going to happen. But on the other hand we saw that Makarov got his existence by the help of Zeref and Mavis which provide a tiny bit of optimism which is helpful for us. This can be the last test our main characters have to do before leading to a happy and prosperous end. May be they can fill the gap of the sky by any means and make everything back to normal. We as an audience can only hope for the best.
