6 Anime for BEASTARS Fans

BEASTARS is one the hit anime of Fall Season 2019. A CGI anime with anthropomorphic animals. It’s one of its kind anime with an intriguing plot in a high school setting. It’s a slice of genre but what makes it an intriguing show is its anthropomorphic animal characters. The show is very thrilling with intriguing characters, mainly a wolf, Legoshi. Here’s a list of 6 anime that you would like to watch if you are a fan BEASTARS.

Shirokuma Café (Polar Bear Café)

Shirokuma Café is a place to relax after a busy schedule for both humans and animals. The owner of the café, Shirokuma loves his job of and enjoys having chat with them on any topic. Shirokuma involves in different adventures with Penguin and Panda and some friends from café. There is no specific day, at Shirokuma Café, something occurs every day.

Similar to BEASTARS! Shirokuma Café shows anthropomorphized animals as the main characters. Like BESTRAS, the personality of the characters is according to their biology, size and form. The most prominent difference between BEASTARS and Shirokuma Café is that BEASTARS takes place in high school and Shirokuma Café takes place in everyday world.

Africa no Salaryman (Africa Salaryman)

Imagine a lion, toucan and a lizard leave jungle to live way from their natural environment of African savannah to work 9-5 with suits, that’s what happen in Africa no Salaryman which is a sitcom about a lion, toucan and a lizard are work as businessmen in Japan which is an absolutely different place for them to live in.

Similar to BEASTARS, Africa no Salaryman shows anthropomorphized animals as their main characters. The theme is different but like BEASTAR, it indicates the existence of animals in an environment where they are have to live afar from the cravings of their animalistic instincts. Africa no Salaryman also features it’s characters’ personalities according their respective animalistic nature and their status in the animal kingdom.

Bakemono no Ko (The Boy and the Beast)

Bakemono no Ko tells the story of a boy and a beast. They both are headstrong and determined characters who are facing problems in their lives. Ren is a nine year old kid whose mother died and father is not around. His relatives are not ready to take his responsibility so he had to live on streets of Shibuya. Shibuten is the kingdom of beasts where Kumatetsu is next in line to become Lord after the retirement of the current one. He is a warrior who is not respected but feared by everyone on the realm. His unfriendly personality makes him unacceptable to become a leader as he does not have those qualities that counts to be a leader. When Ren come to Shibuten, he comes across Kumatetsu, they get acquainted with each other. Rim has to deal with the issues of his own and the world where he is now, but are these two worlds really different from each other.

Bakemono no Ko shows the likeness between the real world and world where beasts rule. Discarding the human world, the kingdom of Beasts is kind of similar to BEASTARS. How anthropomorphized animals have been shown in Bakemono no Ko can be a significant reason to watch the show if you are a fan of BEASTAR.

 

Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (Wolf Children)

Hana is a bright college student who falls for an enigmatic classmate. She later finds out that he is not the student and not even a human. On a full-moon night he shows her that is the only existing werewolf. This doesn’t end their love for each other and they eventually get married and start a family. They have two children, Ame and Yuki and both are capable to transform into wolves. After the birth of her second child, Hana’s husband dies which turned her life upside down. With a grieving heart, she plans to bring up her children while keeping their pedigree hidden from the outside world. She starts living on the countryside along with her wolf children while trying her best to keep them away and safe from getting caught.

Wolf Children is very different from BEASTARS! When it comes to the storyline and the concept.  But, what relates them is the human world with the presence of fictitious beast and the proximity of their nature with human life. In addition to that Wolf Children also shows animals with human nature and living like humans while facing the consequences of their existence. Another similar thing is that wolf is the main character in both shows.

Centaur no Nayami (A Centaur’s Life)

Himeno is a timid centaur girl in a place which is filled with supernatural creatures. Every student in her class displays an oddly distinctive physical feature like horns, tails or wings. Himeno and her two friends Kyouko and Nazomi lives a normal life while having a fulfilled school life in this supernatural world.

When comes to the general concept, Centaur no Nayami is the most similar to BEASTARS! among all the anime with anthropomorphized characters. Centaur no Nayami takes place in high school with young characters who are at the peak of their youth. However, BEASTARS! is quite intense in terms of the relations between carnivores and the herbivores while, the environment of Centaur no Nayami is quite friendly and joyful.

Arashi no Yoru ni (In the Night of the Storm)

Based on Children’s books series, Arashi no Yoru ni tells the story of two animals, goat and a wolf who stumble across each other in a barn during a rainy night. They both start meeting each other repeatedly and become close friends while they help each other to deal with their problem as the time passes.

The story of BEASTARS! revolves around the tension between anthropomorphized carnivores and herbivores animals in a school. While Arashi no Yoru ni shows a friendly relation between the both kind of animals who become friends ehile trying to overcome various obstacles. Both shows focus on the herbivore/carnivore relation which can be count as a similarity between both anime.

Although BEASTARS! is still in the continuation and there is a lot to discover and explore about the characters it moves forward but, so far the show has done a great job in showing intriguing story with the characters who exhibit interesting traits.
