On Friday it was verified by the Fathom Events that on February 19 it will screen movie Ride Your Wave by Masaaki Yuasa in the United States for just one night screening. The screening will be held in Japanese along with English captions. For the movie an English captioned trailer is being telecast by the company and on websites it is also listing localities of the cinemas.

On June 21 the movie was released in Japan and got the 9th position in its starting week. In July GKIDS declared its certification of the movie.

In June the anime was screened in the contest at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. On October 13 the movie was awarded with the Award for Best Animated Feature Film at the 52nd annual Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain. Then on November 10, 13, and 24 the movie screened at the 39th annual Hawai’i International Film Festival.

The movie was directed by Masaaki Yuasa at his studio called Science SARU. The script of the movie was penned by Reiko Yoshida and the music was composed by Michiru Oshima.
